7th/8th Grade Football Bears Take on Cabool Bulldogs
The Ava Middle School Bears opened their 2018 season by hosting the Cabool Bulldogs on Thursday, September 6th. The visiting Bulldogs won the 7th grade game 18-2. Ava’s lone score of the night came when a host of Bears tackled a Cabool running back in the end zone, for a safety, early in the fourth quarter.
Ava’s 8th grade team defeated the Bulldogs 14-0. Grady Goss returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown, to put the Bears ahead. Hunter Hall ran for the conversion to extend the lead 8-0. Ava’s final score of the night came on a 3 yard run by Josh Springer, in the third quarter. Dominic Thayer intercepted a Cabool pass in the fourth quarter, to stop a Cabool drive and get the ball back to Ava. The Bears then ran out the clock to seal the victory.
The next action for the Bears will be on Thursday, September 13th, at Houston. The 7th grade game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 PM, with the 8th grade game immediately following.
