Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Activity Report

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has had a very busy week, with a huge influx of calls for service with 141 received and answered. The jail has also been busy with 24 individuals arrested and booked. Currently, there are 25 in the Douglas County Jail.

Gary Haden
On August 22, 2018, Corporal Wallace made a traffic stop for faulty vehicle equipment, which resulted in arrests of Gary Haden age 43, of Ava, and Kathy Haden age 35, of Ava, for Possession of Controlled Substance after methamphetamine was located. Both are currently in jail for a 10 day sentence.

On August 24, 2018, Corporal Wallace and Deputy Roberts responded to a call for a burglary at Camp Joy, at the end of AB highway at Vera Cruz. Upon arriving and processing the scene, it was evident that numerous items had been taken from the property. After leaving to return to the office, Wallace as well as Deputy Roberts stopped to speak to individuals camping at the creek, only to discover some of the items reported stolen from Camp Joy. Christopher Mendenhall age 32 and Harley Crownover age 25, were arrested for burglary. Both individuals had multiple warrants for their arrests from surrounding agencies. Deputies recovered numerous items that were stolen however there are still some lawn power tools that were not recovered. In the process of seizing the stolen items multiple bags of methamphetamine were seized as well.

Brandon Smith
On August 27, 2018, Brandon Smith age 31, of Ava, was arrested on a Grand Jury indictment for Possession of a Controlled Substance methamphetamine. The indictment stemmed from a traffic stop made by Deputy Shawn Verheecke on March 30, 2018 where several grams of meth and marijuana were seized.
