Friday’s High School Jamboree Will Kickoff Football Season; Ava To Host Softball Jamboree Tonight
High school football is upon us as teams across the Ozarks met up on Friday night, Aug. 17, for a jamboree, and an official season kick-off celebration. In addition to tomorrow night’s event, other fall sports will showcase team talent in jamborees being held throughout the next week.
In football, Catholic High School is host to the Ava Bears’ 2018 Football Jamboree and the action starts at 7:00 p.m. Friday night.
According to the schedule, the rotation will be as follows:
Round One
Catholic vs Diamond, North End;
Ava vs Hollister, South End.
Round Two
Diamond vs Ava, North End;
Catholic vs Hollister, South End.
Round Three
Hollister vs Diamond, North End;
Ava vs Catholic, South End.
All rounds will consist of 24 plays with each team playing offense for 12 plays. The team listed first will begin on offense.
All four teams will be playing at the same time; play will start on the 40 yard line, this process will continue until all 12 plays have been completed.
The Ava Bears will suit up in the Field House, and Ava and Diamond will use benches on the east side of the field. The Bears will warm up on the soccer field, north of the stadium.
In case of rain, game play will be delayed accordingly, but if bad weather persists, it is likely the event will be rescheduled for Saturday.
Admission to the jamboree is $3.
Ava High School is hosting a Softball Jamboree tonight (Aug. 16) beginning at 4:30 p.m. Team play is as follows:
4:30 Willow Springs vs Dora
5:15 Ava vs Willow Springs
6:00 Ava vs Dora
Each team will play a four-inning game, with the fourth inning for junior varsity.
A Volleyball Jamboree will be held next week on Thursday, August 23, in Forsyth. Games will be held in the high school gym or the multi-purpose gym, and play will start at 6:00 p.m.
In the first round, Ava will play against Forsyth in the high school gym. In the multi-purpose room, at 6:30 p.m., Ava will play Billings, and at 7 p.m., Ava takes on Crane.
Matches will consist of two sets to 15, with a 17-point cap. There will be a full warm-up prior to the first match.
Concessions will be available, and admission is $2.00 for students, and $3.00 for adults.
On August 25, the Reeds Spring Invitational Tournament will be held at the Reeds Spring High School softball field, with play beginning at 10 a.m.
The first game will be played between Reeds Spring and Cassville, followed by Ava and Webb City at 11:30 a.m., with Ava taking the third-base dugout.
Ava will take the field again at 2:30 p.m. against Cassville, and then at 5:30 p.m. from the first-base dugout, Ava will face Reeds Spring.
According to the rules, infield practice is allowed prior to the first game only, and a 90-minute time limit applies.
The Ava football team plays their first game at Buffalo on August 24, with the first home game against Willow Springs, on August 27. The middle school football team will travel to Mtn. View Liberty on August 30.
The volleyball team plays their first game at home against Sparta on August 27, and the middle school team will travel to West Plains on September 6.
The cross country team will begin their season with the Strafford Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 1.
