7th, 8th Grade Teams Will Open Basketball Season In Tournaments
The 7th and 8th grade boys and girls will open the 2015 basketball season in tournament play. The boys 7th and 8th grade teams will both play in the Cabool Tournament the week of Nov. 9. The 7th and 8th grade girls teams will play in the 18th annual Subway tournament at Mtn. Grove. For the Cabool boys’ tournament, the 7th and 8th grade teams are seeded the same throughout the bracket. Ava is seeded second and will play Mtn. Grove in first round action on Monday, Nov. 9. The 7th grade boys will play at 5 o’clock and the 8th grade will play at 7 p.m. The 7th grade boys will play in the old gym and the 8th grade will play in the new gym throughout the tournament. The tournament is double-elimination, with semifinals and the losers’ bracket games all being played on Tuesday, Nov. 10. All final-round games will be played on Thursday, Nov. 12. Seedings for the Cabool Tournament are (by rank): Liberty, Ava, Salem, Thayer, Willow Springs, Licking, Mtn. Grove and Cabool. The 7th and 8th grade girls’ tournament at Mtn. Grove will follow a similar format, however, with only seven teams in the 7th grade division, top seed Licking will have a first-round bye. All first-round games will be played Monday night, utilizing two gymnasiums. The 7th grade tournament will be played in the middle school and the 8th grade tournament will be played in the high school. Ava 7th grade will play No. 2 Willow Springs at 5 o’clock Monday, Nov. 9. The Ava 8th grade will play No. 1 Licking at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 9 in the high school. All second-round games will be played on Tuesday, Nov. 10, and all finals, including the championship, will be played on Thursday, Nov. 12.
