Lady Bears Fall Short In Three Games This Week

The Ava Lady Bears have fallen into a scoring drought, averaging just 29 points per game in the last three outings.
The Ava girls dropped games to Salem, Licking and Lebanon during the past week.
Salem defeated the Lady Bears 55-37 in SCA action on the home floor last Thursday night.
Ava, which trailed 19-15 at the half, converted just 9 of 20 free throws on the night and missed several put-backs that are typically expected to fall.
Hope Evans led Ava with 13 points while Savannah Hanning, the only senior on the Lady Tigers squad, led all scorers with 15 points.
The balance of the Salem team consists of freshmen and sophomores.
Others scoring for Ava were Jacey Swofford 8, Lakota Blakey 5, McKenna Hunsaker 4, Callie Eubanks 4 and Ashlee Lawrence 3.
The Lady Bears hosted Licking in a Saturday night game last weekend which resulted in a 38-23 non-conference loss for the Ava girls.
Evans led Ava with 10 points, followed by Hunsaker, Eubanks and Keeley Deal with 3 points each, Swofford 2, and Emily Guengerich and Lakota Blakey with a point apiece.
Bailey Osbourne had 17 points for Licking.
Ava made 8 of 13 free throws on the night while Licking converted 10 of 18.
On Monday night the Lady Bears traveled to Lebanon to face the Yellowjackets in non-conference play and came home with a 59-27 loss.
Hunsaker connected on two three-point shots and finished with eight points to lead Ava.
Others scoring for the Lady Bears were Guengerich 5, Eubanks 4, Swofford 4, Lawrence 3 and Blakey 3.
Ava hit 7 of 10 free throws on the night while Lebanon made 13 of 18.
The Lady Bears will be at home tonight (Thursday) against the Conway Lady Bears.
Next week the Ava girls will play in the Mansfield tournament.
Ava is seeded fifth and will play Norwood in first-round action at 7:30 Monday night.
With a win in the first round, Ava would play the winner of the Licking (1) vs. Niangua (8) game at 6 o’clock Thursday. With a loss in the first round the Ava girls would play at 6 o’clock on Friday night.
Finals will be played on Saturday.
