Ava 7th, 8th Grade Girls Open Basketball Season at Mtn. Grove Tourney

The Ava 7th and 8th grade girls opened the 2014-15 basketball season in tournament play at Mtn. Grove.
The 8th grade Lady Bears won their first round defeating Mtn Grove 41 to 15. The Lady Bears would then take on the number one seed Mtn. View Lady Eagles.
Ava fell short giving the Eagles a 45 to 27 victory. The Lady Bears would then return on Thursday night to face the Licking Lady Wildcats for the 3rd place game where Ava took the win 29 to 21.
Combined scoring for the tournament: Ashton Bewley 32, Kiaunna Snow 26, Emily Frampton 7, Kate McDonald 4, Kenzie Lumley 1, Emily Stillings 5, Araina Evans 12, and Lauren Mendel 10.
The 7th grade Lady Bears fell short to Mtn. Grove in the first round of play 23-26. Ava returned on the second night to face the Lady Eagles. Once again the Lady Bears would fall short by 3 and end tournament play on a 21 to 18 loss.
Combined scoring for the tournament: Claire Fossett 7, Emaly Keyes 6, Megan Lakey 7, Makayla Miller 4, Serena Stewart 1, and Eden Little 14.
The Lady Bears started this week with back to back games playing at home on Monday against the Houston Lady Tigers and traveling to West Plains on Tuesday.
The 7th grade Lady Bears got their first win of the season, defeating Houston 39 to 17.
Little led the scorers with 13 points, Fossett and Keyes had 6 each, Lakey and Miller 4 each, and Quincy Kelly, Faith Lansdown, and Stewart had 2  apiece.
The 8th grade Lady Bears faced foul trouble in the first half and only led by 2 at half-time. But with a strong start to the second half, the Lady Bears took the win 47 to 25.
Snow led all scorers with 17 points, Bewley and Evans had 11 each, Frampton 3, Stillings 2, Mendel 2, and McDonald 1.
The Lady Bears would again come home with wins defeating the Lady Zizzers in both the 7th and 8th grade game.
The 7th grade Lady Bears took a 15-0 first quarter lead with Little scoring 11 of her 15 in the first quarter.
The Lady Bears would not look back, finishing with a 41 to 12 victory. Fossett added 10 points, Keyes 4, Kelly 4, Miller 4, Lansdown 2, and Lakey 2.
The 8th grade would again have a slow first half trailing by 2 at half but come out strong in the second half outscoring the Lady Zizzers 37 to 17. The Lady Bears finished the game with a 48 to 30 victory.
Frampton led scorers with 18 points,  with 14 of those coming off offensive rebounds. Bewley added 10, Snow 7, Evans 6, Mendel 3, McDonald 2, and Lumley 2.
The Lady Bears will travel to Reeds Spring tonight (Thursday), will play at Mtn. View Monday night and return home on Tuesday night to face the very strong Lady Indians of Strafford.
