Jamboree Will Kick Off Football Season Friday Night

Football fans had an opportunity to see the team in action last Friday night when the Bear Booster Club hosted the annual fall scrimmage, highlighting all the fall sports in one evening.

In anticipation and preparation for the 2012 high school football season, teams will participate in the Jamboree on Friday night, Aug. 17.
For the Ava High School Bears, the Jamboree this year will be at Mtn. Grove High School where Strafford and Houston will join the Bears and Panthers to round out the four-team event.
The 2012 varsity season will open on Friday night, Aug. 24, at home against Aurora.
At the Jamboree, each team will run an equal number of offensive and defensive plays against each of the other teams under a controlled scrimmage format.
Certified game officials will whistle the plays and a chain crew will mark the downs. At the same time, the coaches will not be restricted to the sideline, and will give directions to their athletes as the scrimmage takes place.
Admission for the Jamboree will be $3 for adults and $1 for students. Game programs will be available free with gate admission, according to information sent out by Mtn. Grove High School.
Ava’s schedule has been shuffled this year as the district format takes on a different look statewide.
After hosting the Houn’ Dawgs on Aug. 24, the Bears will travel to Rogersville in non-conference action on Aug. 31.
The conference schedule begins on Sept. 7 at home with Mtn. Grove, and Mtn. View-Liberty will be here on Sept. 14.
The Bears will travel to Salem on Sept. 21, will be at home with Houston on Sept. 28. Back-to-back away games will take the Bears to Thayer and Cabool on Oct. 5 and 12, respectively, before the regular schedule ends at home against Willow Springs on Oct. 19.
With the new district scheduling format adopted by the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) this year, each team’s 10th game will be a district game, as in the past. However, the opponent will not be known until the nine-game season is completed.
Each team is in an eight-team district much like other sports. At the end of the nine-game regular season, teams in the district will be seeded by a points system to determine who plays in week 10.
Ava is in Class 3 District 3 which includes Ava, Buffalo, Eldon, Logan-Rogersville, Osage, Salem, Springfield Catholic and Versailles, so Ava could end up playing Rogersville or Salem twice.
Four SCA schools are in Class 2 District 2 which includes Houston, Mtn. View-Liberty, Mtn. Grove and Willow Springs, along with Cuba, Fair Grove, Pleasant Hope and Strafford.
Cabool and Thayer, from the SCA, are in Class 1 District 1, which also includes Chaffee, Crystal City, Hayti, Portageville, St. Vincent and Valle Catholic of Ste. Genevieve.
