DOCO, Inc. Celebrates Grand Re-Opening of Expanded Community Blessing Box Made Possible Through Summit Cares Grant

DOCO, Inc. is proud to announce the grand re-opening of its newly remodeled Community Blessing Box, an expansion made possible through the generous support of Summit Gas and its Summit Cares Grant Program.

Thanks to the Summit Cares grant, DOCO was able to expand and improve the Blessing Box to better meet the growing needs of individuals and families throughout Douglas County. As use of the Blessing Box has continued to increase, the original structure could no longer accommodate the volume of donations or the number of community members relying on it.

The newly expanded Blessing Box offers additional space for nonperishable food, hygiene products, baby essentials, and other everyday necessities. The project also includes a new Blessing Box Library featuring books for all ages, including accessible and inclusive titles that reflect DOCO’s commitment to serving every member of our community.

DOCO will celebrate the grand re-opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, July 22, at 2:30 p.m. Community members, local businesses, elected officials, and supporters are invited to attend as DOCO officially unveils the remodeled Blessing Box and recognizes Summit Gas and the Summit Cares Grant Program for making the project possible.

“We are incredibly grateful to Summit Gas and the Summit Cares Grant Program for believing in this project,” said Dawn Cox, Executive Director of DOCO, Inc. “Their investment allows us to better serve our neighbors with dignity and compassion. In a rural community like ours, access to food, hygiene items, and basic necessities can make a tremendous difference for families facing difficult times.”

To celebrate the grand re-opening, DOCO will be hosting a Food, Hygiene, and Baby Supplies Drive, inviting individuals, businesses, churches, civic organizations, and community groups to help stock the shelves. Every donation—large or small—helps ensure the Blessing Box remains available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for anyone in need.

As an added thank-you, donors will receive one entry into a drawing for a free Lead with Kindness t-shirt for every shelf they help fill during the grand opening drive.

For nearly 50 years, DOCO, Inc. has provided meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities while strengthening the Douglas County community. The Blessing Box is another example of that mission in action—neighbors helping neighbors through kindness, compassion, and hope.

DOCO extends its sincere appreciation to Summit Gas and the Summit Cares Grant Program for helping make this project a reality and for investing in projects that strengthen rural communities.
