Ava man faces assault, robbery charges

An Ava man is facing multiple charges following a reported physical altercation on A Highway.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Aaron Box and Deputy Sam Evans were dispatched at approximately 7:56 p.m. on June 9 to a report of a physical altercation between two male subjects.

While deputies were responding, the sheriff’s office received a second call reporting the homeowner was possibly having a heart attack due to the altercation.

Upon arrival, deputies located the suspect, identified as Tremane Courtney, 19, of Ava.

According to the sheriff’s office, Courtney was reportedly dating the victim’s granddaughter. Authorities said the grandfather intervened after Courtney allegedly became abusive.

Following the investigation, Courtney was placed on a 24-hour hold. A warrant was later issued charging him with second-degree assault involving a special victim, second-degree robbery, endangering the welfare of a child by creating substantial risk, and tampering with a motor vehicle.

Bond was set at $25,000 cash only.

All charges are allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
