Ava man arrested on child endangerment, property damage charges

An Ava man was arrested Saturday, May 23, after the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting that he was under the influence of a substance and damaging property at a residence where two small children were present.
According to information from the sheriff’s office, Colt York, 31, of Ava, was arrested by Sgt. Box and Deputy Evans on allegations of two counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, first-degree property damage and resisting or interfering with a felony arrest.
The sheriff’s office stated that Sgt. Box, Deputy J. Pueppke and Deputy S. Evans responded to the residence after the 911 call. Upon arrival, deputies reportedly observed a broken storm door, broken glass scattered in the area and several plants knocked over on the porch.
When deputies knocked at the door, York allegedly came to the door and began walking away after seeing deputies. The homeowner opened the door, and deputies located York in the kitchen. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies gave York verbal commands to stop and get on the ground, but he did not comply. York was then assisted to the ground and placed in handcuffs.
A warrant was later obtained. The sheriff’s office stated that, due to York’s criminal history involving similar offenses, no bond was set in the case.
All charges are allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
