City of Ava Invites Young Artists to Draw Their Way Into Summer Safety

While winter weather still keeps many outdoor activities on pause, the City of Ava, Missouri is giving local students a chance to think ahead to warmer days with its upcoming Summer Safety Contest.
The contest is open to students in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade, including public, private, and homeschooled children. Participants are encouraged to draw and color a picture showing how they stay safe during summer activities, particularly around water.
Entries may be turned in at Ava City Hall’s drive-thru window, located at 404 S. Jefferson St., during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Submissions may also be placed in the after-hours drop box.
All entries must include the student’s full name, phone number, and grade level written on the back. The deadline to enter is Friday, May 1.
Winners will be selected in each age group, with first-place winners receiving a free day at the Ava City Pool. One grand prize winner will receive a Splash Pass good for 11 free visits during the upcoming pool season.
City officials say the contest is designed to promote important safety habits while giving students a creative outlet.
