James Minor Crowell, 91, of Columbia passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.
Services will be Monday, July 15 at Memorial Funeral Home with Visitation 1-2 PM and a Service at 2 PM with Military Honors to follow. Burial will be Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 12:30 PM in Ava Cemetery, Ava, Missouri.
Jim was born on January, 25, 1933 in Louisville, Mississippi, the son of Minor Crowell and Maggie (Carr) Crowell. On September 16, 1961, in Ava, he was united in marriage to Nancy Jane (Phipps) Crowell.
Jim served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Jim had a career in telecommunications. Faith was central to Jim’s life. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Norwalk, Ohio, while the family resided there. In Columbia, Jim and Nancy are members of Bethel Church. Jim was involved in Prison Ministry at the county jail for several years. He was a volunteer at the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri. He was a sports enthusiast. He followed local high school sports and was a fan of the Mizzou Tigers. A highlight of his later years was being included in the Honor Flight from Central Missouri.
Jim is survived by his wife: Nancy; their two sons: Ron (Kara Beth) Crowell of Lebanon, MO; Bill (Donna) Crowell of Cape Girardeau, MO; four grandsons: Aaron; Bryson; Cody; Bryan (fiancée, Shanna Martin). He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers: Grady Crowell and an infant: Bobby.
Memorials are suggested to the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri in care of the funeral home.
