Viewers Select Most Popular Quilts At Annual Art Guild Quilt Show

The 2017 quilt show of the Ava Art Guild was held during the past two weeks, ending on Aug. 26.
This year’s show saw record attendance with more than 96 people visiting the show and voting for their favorite quilts. This is more than double the number who voted for “people’s choice” last year.
Quilts were entered from Ava, Norwood, Mansfield, Seymour, and Grove Springs with a total of 38 quilts in the 2017 show.
Visitors were asked to vote for their favorite quilt as they browsed the show. Here are the results of those votes:
Viewer’s Choice
First place – Claire Kelley with her grandmother’s flower baskets.
Second place – Becky O’Dell with her son’s eagle scout memory quilt.
Third place – Dorothy Locke with her cathedral window quilt.
A saw blade painted and donated by Rita Fancher for the “Eye-spy” contest prize was won by Diana Parke of Ava.
During the show there were drawings for three quilts. One drawing was held during the open house for the Douglas County Historical Society. Two more stayed at the quilt show and tickets were sold until the end of the show.
A drawing for the Newborns in Need quilt was held and Sue Coble of Ash Grove, was the winner of that one. The fundraiser quilt for Wright County Children’s Home drawing will be held at a later date.
The Art and Quilt Guilds are already looking forward to next year’s show.
