Edwin M Hailey

Edwin Maurice Hailey, 89, passed away Jan. 5, 2015 at Cox South Hospital, Springfield, Mo. He was born April 23, 1925 in Ava, Mo., to parents Homer and Hattie Ellison Hailey.
Edwin served in the Army, Sept, 14, 1944 to June 8, 1945, then June 9 to Oct. 19, 1946. He was stationed in Italy and Europe; achieving the rank of First Lieutenant.
When he returned home, he became a dairy farmer and an established business owner of dairy farm and telecommunications equipment, retiring at the age of 89.
Ten years ago, he traveled to Uganda, Africa.
He had a great interest working on history and photos for the preservation of family heritage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Geraldine Davis Hailey; son, David Hailey; three sisters: Mona Denney, Geraldine Hailey and Kathleen Harnden.
Edwin is survived by son, Roger and wife, Pam Hailey; daughter-in-law, Cindy Hailey; grandchildren: April and husband Ted Algaier, Tiffany and husband Michael Beard, Alicia and husband Ryan Wojciuch, Abby Hailey, Anna Hailey, Lori and husband Justin Moore, and Leigh Lawhon; along with seven great-grandchildren. A host of other friends and relatives have lost a good friend and neighbor.
A visitation was held Friday, Jan. 9, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Ava Family Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Ava United Methodist Church with burial following in the Ava City Cemetery with full military honors by the Troy Herd American Legion Post #112 and the Ava VFW #5993.
