Thetis Olen Pruiett, 88, of Borger, Texas, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, in Amarillo.
Services were at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Gateway Baptist Church in Borger. Burial was in Westlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers in Amarillo, Texas.
Thetis Pruiett, often known as Peanut or Slim, was born on July 30, 1923, in Douglas County, Mo. (near Ava) to Ebb and Cordie Pruiett. Peanut was the oldest of eight children and attended Breedon School. He left school at an early age to help his parents tend to the family farm and raise his siblings.
In the early 1940s, he followed his Aunt Esther and Uncle Jack to Sanford and found work at the United Carbon Black plant in Borger. It was there Peanut met Nova Jo Newman and they were married on Jan. 26, 1945. The marriage produced two children, Linda Jo and Terry Thomas.
After Peanut left the carbon black plant, he worked in the Borger oilfields for the next 33 years. Family vacations were spent traveling to Ava and visiting his parents and siblings. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed any activity that involved spending time with his loved ones: camping, boating, water skiing and motorcycling.
Following the death of Nova, Peanut moved back to Ava in 1995 to help his aging parents. Eight years later, he married his childhood sweetheart, Huba Stephens, on March 26, 2003. This marriage added Becky and Beverly and their families to his family circle. In 2005, Peanut and Huba moved to Borger, where they remained until his declining health took them to Amarillo to be closer to his daughter and son.
Peanut passed away surrounded by those he loved and treasured – and those who loved and treasured him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nova; his parents, Ebb and Cordie; a brother, Marvin; Uncle Jack and several extended family members.
Survivors include his wife Huba of the home; a son, Terry and wife Cathy of Amarillo, Texas; three daughters, Linda and husband Wayne of Amarillo, Texas, Becky and husband Howard of Lovespark, Ill., and Beverly and husband Floyd of LeClaire, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Pudge and Johnny; four sisters, Mae, Sylvia, Goldia and Lou; Aunt Esther; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.
