Voice of Democracy & Patriot’s Pen Winners

Seventy-Six students from the Ava Middle School participated in the 2020-2021 VFW Patriot’s Pen essay contest with the theme “What is Patriotism to Me?” Ava VFW and Auxiliary winners were: 1st Place Christopher Maddox Wade, 2nd Place Hunter Adams, 3rd Place Alexis Philpott. Ten students from Victory Academy participated in the 2020-2021 VFW Voice of Democracy essay contest with the theme “Is this the country our founding fathers envisioned?” Ava VFW and Auxiliary winners were 1st Place Jaden Flake, 2nd Place Jaden Wilbur, 3rd Place Aiden Reis. The Voice of Democracy audio-essay competition, with the 2021-2022 theme of “America: Where Do We Go From Here?” is open to all 9-12th grade students. Each state winner competes at the national level where the first place $30,000 scholarship prize is awarded. The 2021-2022 Patriots Pen contest is now open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students with the theme of “How Can I Be a Good American?”
