Middle School Bears Drop Two Against Willow Springs Last Week

Ava Middle School hosted the Willow Springs Bears for football action on September 27th at Silvey Field. The visiting Willow Springs squad won the seventh grade game 30-0. Willow Springs scored on their first play from scrimmage and scored two more times in the first half to hold a 22-0 advantage. They added one more score early in the third quarter for the final margin of victory.
Willow Springs won the eighth grade contest 34-24. The visiting Bears scored on their first possession, then recovered an onside kick and scored again to take a 12-0 lead. Ava scored next on a 2 yard run by Grady Goss to finish a 4 play, 56 yard drive. Josh Springer ran for the conversion to cut the Willow Springs advantage to 12-8. Willow Springs answered with two second quarter touchdowns to take a 28-8 halftime lead. They added another touchdown early in the third quarter to increase the lead to 34-8. Grady Goss ran for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to finish drives of 67 and 52 yards, respectively. Goss also ran for the conversions to complete the scoring.
