Silvey Stampede Attracts 59 Runners
The 6th annual Silvey Stampede was held Friday September 14 preceding the Ava varsity home football game. 59 runners participated in multi-distance events on the track. Participants paid a $10 entry fee which gave them the chance to stretch their competitive spirit and legs in some laps around the track and earned them a commemorative t- shirt.
This race is named after Coach Larry Silvey, who was a highly successful track coach at Ava High school multiple years. Coach Silvey served as the official starter for all the races on Friday.
This race was initially run six years ago to celebrate the new sports complex and its all weather six lane track.
