Historical Society Meeting Notes

Seeking Ritter Fire Memories from ‘58

Douglas County Historical Society held its monthly meeting Aug. 20, 2018

Pat called the meeting to order. Sharon gave the treasurer’s report and minutes from the July meeting.   J. D made a motion they be approved and Amber 2nd it.

Sharon gave a report on the winners of the quilt show and they were: Ashley DeVore won the traveling raffle quilt. Our youngest volunteer, Ledger, drew the ticket and he did a good job.  Joyce Cross won 1st place with her umbrella quilt, Kimberly Pitts won 2nd place with her pink ribbon cancer quilt and Della Dennis won 3rd place with her reversible quilt. Sharon then listed the sponsors of the event and they were: KKOZ radio station, Town & Country Supermarket, The Ava Art Guild, The Douglas County Herald and Cahow Inflatables.

Tommy told us about a fund raiser that is being held to support the Wall that is coming to Ava Sept. 20, 2018.  It will a wonderful way to show our support of our Veterans, so we hope everyone goes to see it.

The fundraiser to repair the garage was discussed and the big door has been painted, so we are making progress.

We then discussed some new addition to the Museum and we have had some new family research books added to the library and another arrowhead display.  I think that make us have one of the biggest display of arrowhead in this area.  It is quite impressive.

We are still needing story for the winter journal, the deadline for this one is Oct. 15, so be sure and get your story turned in.  Tim Ritter is looking for people that remember the Ritter fire back in 1958, and if you were involved in helping at that time please get in touch with him by contacting the Museum.

After a general discussion, J. D made a motion to adjourn and Sally 2nd it.

The next meeting will be Sept 17, 2016 and everyone is welcome
