Labor Day will be observed on Monday, Sept. 3, and government offices, banks, and many businesses will close in observance of the holiday.
Offices of the Douglas County Herald will be closed on Monday, so advertising deadlines will be pushed back to the end of the day Friday. Correspondents are asked to mail news items as soon as possible, preferably no later than Friday.
The City of Ava will also be closed, and there will be no trash service on Sept 3 as well. Trash routes normally served on Monday will be picked up on Tuesday that week.
In addition to Labor Day, City Hall has announced they will close tomorrow (Aug. 31) at noon, for system upgrades. According to City Clerk Suzanne Welsh, if an issue should arise Friday afternoon, city residents are asked to call the Ava Police Department.
The Douglas County Courthouse will close for Labor Day, as county employees also recognize the holiday.
The Douglas County Library will also be closed in observance of Labor Day.
Since Labor Day is a federal holiday, there will be no mail delivery service.
