Dedication Ceremony Reopens Ava’s Renovated Airport

Ava’s renovated airport was officially reopened with a ribbon cutting last Thursday. Represented in the picture above are members of the Ava Area Chamber of Commerce and City of Ava, as well as representatives from the Missouri Department of Transportation Aviation Division, Lockner Engineering, Pace Construction and the Ava AViAtion Club. Through a 90/10 grant from MoDOT, the city was able to completely refurbish the existing runway at the Bill Martin Memorial Airport, establishing a new base as well as new asphalt on the runway, taxiway, airport apron and a portion of the access driveway. The total cost of the project came in at just under $1 million, with the city’s share being less than $100,000. Airport manager David Davidson, with the giant scissors in the center of the photo, cut the ceremonial ribbon.
