Ava JV Football Improves Record To 3-1 With Win

Ava’s junior varsity football team improved to 3-1 Monday, Sept. 11 with a 30-26 win over Liberty.
The Bears jumped out to an early lead with a long touchdown pass from Zach Mendel to Payton Evans that was followed by a Zack Miller run for the 2-point conversion.
Colby Miles helped extend the lead with a short touchdown run again followed by a successful 2-point conversion run by Zack Miller to make it a 16-0 lead.
The Liberty Eagles answered with a score of their own to make it a 16-6 game. Zack Miller then scored a defensive touchdown with a 55-yard interception return. Colby Miles scored the 2-point conversion this time to extend the lead to 24-6.
After the Bears’ defense came up with another turnover Waylin Moon broke a 50-yard run to find the end zone for the Bears. A failed 2-point conversion attempt followed and the Bears held a 30-6 lead.
Liberty scored late in the half to make the halftime score 30-12 in favor of the Bears.
The second half scoring was all Eagles who scored a touchdown in both the 3rd and 4th quarter to get them within four points late in the game, but the Bears were able to put together a long drive late in the 4th quarter to run the clock out.
Ava’s next junior varsity game will be Monday Sept. 18 at home against Salem beginning at 6 p.m.
