Bernece Miller

Bernece Laverne Miller, 89 years, 11 months, 14 days old, passed away on Aug. 29, 2017, at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare with her family by her side.
Bernece was born Sept. 15, 1927, in the Girdner community in Douglas County to Ira and Edna (Walker) Harris.
As a young girl her grandmother, Julia Walker, helped raise her.
Bernece was retired from working on the farm and also earlier years from working at Rawlings and Spaldings Manufacturing in Ava.
On Nov. 17, 1942, Bernece and Lawrence Alvie Miller were united in marriage and this union was blessed with two children, Gib and Connie.
Bernece was a Christian and a member of Oak Grove Church in Wasola. She enjoyed working on the farm with Lawrence. She also enjoyed canning and making her famous “Granny Boogs” barbeque sauce for friends and family.
Bernece was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; her husband, Lawrence; her stepfather, Chester Twitty; grandsons, Toby Miller and Landen Johnson; and two sisters, Irene Welch and Allene Jackson.
Bernece is survived by two children and their spouses, Gib and Connie Miller, and Connie and Jim Holobaugh, all of Ava, Mo.; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Okema and Bob Haden, and Carol Adkins, all of Springfield, Mo.; and one brother, Delbert and Joyce Twitty, Squires, Mo.; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Bernece will be Friday, Sept. 1, 2017 at 10 a.m. in Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, Mo., with burial following in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. to service time in the funeral home.
Officiating will be Pastor Marvin Loftin. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
