Three Women Charged for Setting Fire In Jail

Three women have been charged with setting fire in the Douglas County Jail on the morning of Saturday, July 15.
A Douglas County Grand Jury has issued indictments on Courtney Smith, 26, Thornfield; Amanda Sue Wade, 36, Ava; and Erin Nichols, 24, Ava.
All three women are charged with the class B felony of first degree arson and a second class B felony of delivery of a weapon at a county jail.
Smith is being held without bond while bond for both Wade and Nichols has been set at $20,000 cash only.
The Douglas County Jail was evacuated around 10:30 a.m. on July 15 when fire broke out in one of the cells and the jail filled with smoke.
Inmates were handcuffed together and led outside where they were detained by deputies while the Ava Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the small fire and cleared the building of smoke.
EMS personnel with Cox Ambulance-Ava responded and checked out each of the individuals who were affected by the smoke.
Inmates were then placed back in their cells and Sheriff Chris Degase reported no injuries and no one suffering adverse affects from the smoke.
Surveillance cameras inside the jail provided officers with video needed to identify those responsible for the fire.
