Silvey Named Vice President of Advancement of OMC Foundation

The Ozarks Medical Center (OMC) Foundation and the Community Foundation of the Ozarks (CFO) announce that Carol Silvey will become the Vice President for Advancement of the OMC Foundation, building on her extensive career of advancing south-central Missouri through philanthropy. Silvey will work to develop charitable assets from individuals, businesses, corporations and other foundations for medical technology, equipment and facilities to assist OMC in providing excellent health care to the communities it serves. The OMC Foundation has been a nonprofit partner holding funds with the CFO since 2007. Silvey fills the position vacated by Ward Franz in June, when Franz accepted appointment as Chi ef of Staff to Lieutenant Governor Mike Parsons. “Carol brings a wealth of strategic foundation experience to the Ozarks Medical Center Foundation,” stated Ken Joplin, Chairman of the OMC Foundation board. “Carol’s life-long love and service to the region will create a legacy of progress and hope for the future of our community and our health care system.” A native of Douglas County, Silvey joined Missouri State University-West Plains in 1968 as history instructor and history department chair. In 1991, Silvey was chosen to initiate the MSU-West Plains campus development program and built the campus endowment to over $1 million. She created several citizen-based advisory boards, including the Development Board, Missouri State-West Plains Advisory Board and Friends of the Garnett Library, to provide community input for fund-raising and growth efforts. In 2006, Silvey retired from Missouri State-West Plains and joined the Community Foundation of the Ozarks as Senior Associate for Advancement. During her tenure at CFO, her primary responsibility was to serve as a resource for donors, agency partners, and affiliates in a seven-county region in south-central Missouri. In 2011 Silvey collaborated with Nancy Franz, Nancy Shaw, Kay Garrett, Robin Morgan, Florence James and Beth Peters to form the Women with Heart Committee, the CFO’s first Giving Circle. Since its inception, the Women with Heart Committee has made 30 grants totaling $73,278 for equipment for OMC Heart Care and Stroke programs. Silvey also worked to establish the CFO’s Rural Schools Partnership program, which works to connect rural schools to the communities they anchor. “While we will miss our day-to-day interactions with her talents and deep knowledge of our south-central region, we are grateful that we’ll continue to work closely with Carol and the OMC Foundation to advance our mutual interest of improving the quality of life in our region,” CFO President Brian Fogle said. The CFO will continue to operate an office in the West Plains area and will begin the process soon to hire a new staff associate. Silvey is known for her volunteerism and support of community service projects and in April 2017, she joined the MSU Board of Governors representing the 8th District. In recognition of her efforts, Silvey has received numerous awards through the years, including The Missourian Award, West Plains Chamber of Commerce’s Lifetime Achievement and Volunteer of the Year awards, the Mountain Grove Chamber of Commerce’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Outstanding Rotarian for Community Service Award. The Carol Silvey Student Union has been named for her in the new Hass-Darr Hall at MSU-West Plains, and she was recently named to Ingram’s “50 Missourians You Should Know.” “The vision of Ozarks Medical Center is to change lives by nurturing hope, improving health and encouraging wellness, every person, every time.
