Emergency Response Team

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), working in tandem with the Ava/Douglas County EMA, is in the process of organizing a local emergency response team that will be available to react when disasters occur.
A kickoff meeting will be held next Thursday, Aug. 10, at 5:30 p.m. at the Ava/Douglas County EMA Office, just east of the Sheriff’s Office on Lincoln Avenue.
Mike Pickerel, volunteer agency liaison with FEMA, emphasizes this meeting is not for people seeking assistance as defined in the federal disaster designation, but is rather for individuals and organization that may be able to provide assistance. This may include local organizations with national affiliations such as Lions Clubs and Kiwanis Clubs, as well as churches with disaster or outreach groups or organizations that can step in and provide financial assistance and/or physical labor.
If you are involved with an organization that may have resources to offer, or if you are interested in serving with an action committee, you are invited to attend the meeting next Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the EMA Office in Ava.
