Heart of the Ozarks Celebration Will Be Held This Friday Night

Any Time Is a Good Time to Celebrate Our Independence! All the other celebrations have come and gone. Now come out and enjoy Ava’s biggest event of the year – rescheduled from June 30

Ava’s biggest and most elaborate patriotic event of the year will take place this Friday night when Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center presents its 32nd annual Fourth of July Celebration. Postponed from Friday, June 30, due to weather, Friday night’s Independence Day celebration promises to include all the fun and excitement that was planned a month ago including games, prizes, live music and, of course, a huge fireworks show at dark, presented by Foggy Bottom Productions. The opening ceremony will begin at 5:45 with the event and entertainment kicking off at 6 o’clock. A crowd numbering into the thousands will gather “on the hill” for the annual program that will include kids’ games and activities, food, crafts, inflatables, the Crystal Lake Trout Pond, a car show, bingo and various other vendors. Among the food items offered will be cotton candy, funnel cakes, hamburgers and hot dogs. Silent Auction and Drawing Not to be overlooked at the big celebration event is the silent auction that offers thousands of dollars in merchandise, gift certificates, ball game and show tickets and gift baskets, often purchased at a fraction of the actual value. There are Ava Bear Baskets, tickets to Branson shows including Moses, The Branson Belle, and Silver Dollar City. There are packages containing St. Louis Cardinals tickets, Missouri Fox Trotters show tickets, and many gift certificates, passes, services and gift items provided by local businesses. Proceeds from the silent auction are used each year to help keep the celebration going. In addition, Heart of the Ozarks will also be holding a drawing for a his and hers Ruger LC9 pistols. The winner of the pistols will also receive coupons for two conceal and carry classes. The drawing for the guns will be held just prior to the fireworks display on Friday night. Entertainment The opening ceremony at 5:45 will include an opening prayer and posting of the Colors by Troy Herd American Legion Post 112 and Ava VFW Post 5993 of Douglas County. That will be followed by Missy Breshears who will sing the National Anthem, then proceed into a 30-minute program of live entertainment. Continuing with the musical entertainment will be Backyard Bluegrass, and Blended Roots, with Bluegrass Tradition taking the program up to the fireworks display which is scheduled to begin at 9:30. Parking and Shuttle While arrangements are made for a great deal of parking on the hill as the nursing home, there’s never quite enough for everyone. So once again this year arrangements have been made for additional off-site parking and shuttle service. Parking is available at the bottom of the hill, just below the nursing home; at the former Murphy’s General Store property across the highway; and added this year, parking will also be available on the lot adjacent to the Missouri Department of Conservation property on Highway 76. Shuttle service will be provided by Ava General Baptist Church and Highway Church of the Nazarene from all three locations. The shuttles will run throughout the evening, providing rides both to and from the event so that if you do not wish to stay for the entire evening you can get a ride back to your car. VFW Service Event A VFW Post Service Officer from Russell T. Scott Post 5993 will be at Heart of the Ozarks’ annual Independence Day celebration on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. to evaluate veterans’ eligibility to receive VA benefits and to provide referral information and assistance. Those wishing to meet with the VFW representatives should find them at the VFW and Auxiliary booth.
