Douglas County Historical Society held its meeting June 19. Sharon called the meeting to order. Pat gave the treasurer’s report and read the minutes from the May meeting. Both were approved. Some of the Items discussed: Quilt Show date set for Aug. 19. Motion made by Marilyn and 2nd by Sally. Quilt pattern for next year discussed. Sally and Pat are working on deciding the pattern. Fourth of July celebration at the nursing home was scheduled for June 30 but will now be held on July 28. Herval Porter Day went as planned, with some 30-35 people in attendance. Tommy Roberts made a presentation and the city handled refreshments and slide show. Herval had a wonderful day. Next Journal [winter 2017] will be on women that made impact on your life [the women behind the scenes]. Stories are needed. Email to Sharon, send to Douglas County Museum, or bring them by on Saturday from 10 am till 2 p.m. Dick Salgado gave report on Festival that the Chamber is working on for Oct. 7 & 8. They are working on getting music set up and lodging. If you are interested in having a booth or playing music contact the Ava Chamber. He also gave a report on the 2500 miles of Art & Culture program being held next April 23 through 29. Possible events Civil War cemetery tour, music, trail rides, float trip, mills tour, Art Guild [maybe quilt show], farmers market, museum tour, Sunday church social. If interested there is a meeting on July 21 at 10 a.m. at City Hall. Nominating committee announced new officers who were elected: Barbara Breshears, board member; Pat Carmichael, president; Marilyn Alms, vice-president; Sharon Sanders, secretary-treasurer. Pictures being posted to Facebook were discussed; Motion made to adjourn by JD Ross, 2nd by Sharon.
