Wanda Lou Adams
Wanda Lou Adams, age 86, and a resident of Porterville, Calif., passed away peacefully at her residence Oct. 8, 2016.
Wanda was born Dec. 15, 1929, at Norman, Okla., to Harley and Pauline Peoples and at the age of 7 her family moved to Corcoran, Calif.
Wanda graduated from Corcoran High School in May of 1947 and in June began what ultimately turned into a lifelong career with PG&E.
On May 28, 1948, she married a handsome young man named Adrian Adams, who also happened to be an employee of PG&E. In 1987 she retired from her 36-year PG&E career as an office manager.
For many years Wanda gave private piano lessons and also played the piano or organ for a number of churches in the cities of Corcoran, Tracy, Springville and Porterville, Calif.
After their retirement, Wanda and Adrian devoted much of their time and labors to helping less fortunate people around the world through numerous missionary and church groups. She was a wonderful hostess for all her families’ holiday and special events too; always making sure everything was just perfect, right down to the table settings and her delicious homemade pecan pie. She was also a very enthusiastic supporter at all her grandchildren’s events. Whether it was a nearby water polo game, an out of town soccer tournament or a dance recital or competition across the state line, her grandchildren always knew grandma and grandpa would be there to cheer them on.
Beyond her family, Wanda’s absence will also undoubtedly be felt by her church family who had grown accustomed to hearing her play the piano beautifully for their Sunday school classes.
Her surviving family includes her husband, Adrian, of 68 years; daughter, Valerie Smith and husband, Gerald, of Porterville, Calif.; daughter Daphne Jones and husband, Ron, of Fresno, Calif.; her sister, Virginia Miranda, of Texas; grandchildren, Scott Adney and wife Crystal, Jeffrey Adney, Ashley Johnson, Chelsea Toews and husband Hunter; great-grandchildren: Abigail Adney, Adeline Adney, Hannah Adney and Weiland Adney.
Visitation was Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Whitehurst-Peters-Loyd Chapel. Funeral Services were at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at Porterville Nazarene Church followed by a luncheon reception. There was a graveside service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Corcoran District Cemetery, Corcoran, Calif.
