Ava Cross Country Boys Run to 3rd Place Finish at Hollister

Eleven Schools attended the Hollister Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 4 . Six of those will be competitors in the Class 3 Districts that will be held there on Saturday, Oct. 29 .

The course is a permanently marked 1ݣile loop that is all grass with gently rolling hills. The high school runners complete two loops and then finish on a slight downgrade that is a straight 200 meters long.

Cassville boys had a strong showing, scoring only 25 points for first place. Austin Wilson led his team and also finished in the top position with a time of 16:14.

East Newton was second,  edging the Bears by 2 points.

For the Bears, Joe Sicilia placed 7th  with a time of 18:09. Collin Jenkins was one second behind with a time of 18:10 and finished in 8th place .

Next for Ava was Tristen Shearer with a time of 18:33 and placing 14th. Jacob Luebbering had a time of 18:40 and placed 16th.  Jacob Key was 19th with a time of 19:10.  Drew Adams placed 22nd with 19:16, and Devon Darlington ran a new career personal best with a time of 19:24 and came across in 25th place.

Garrett Devore ran the 5k in 21:07 to place 45th.  Troy Herrell was 52nd with a 21:40, and Gavin Goss got a new career personal best with a time of 22:01 and placed 59th.  

Ethan Tucker, in his first 5k of the season, ran a 22:32 to place 63rd and also in his first 5k, Caiden Palmer, ran 25:48 to place 67th.  There were 70 boys in the high school race.  

On the girls’ side, Rachel Bagg from Reeds Spring won the high school women’s race in 20:43.   Emily Stillings ran a 22:56 and placed 9th overall for Ava.  Eden Little had a 23:16 to place 13th.  Emily Little placed 27th in 25:31.  Hailey Pedersen was 0.02 seconds behind her in 28th and Calista Giorgianni ran a 29:06 to place 38th. There were 45 girls in the high school race.  

In the junior high 2500 meter races, Layla Giorgianni with a time of 11:01, had the highest finish of any Ava Bear of any grade and gender and placed 5th out of 45.  

Grace Key ran a 12:24 and placed 26th and Ashlynn Massey got a new personal best out of the three races she has been in this season with a time of 16:03.

Zach Olsen was first for the Bears with a time of 10:10 and placed 18th. Reece Adams had a 10:48 and placed 29th. In 55th Eithan Kenning ran a 13:20.  Maddox Meyer was in the 59th spot and had a 14:21. Jansen Breshears had a new personal best with 17:20 to place 65th and Peyhton Groth ran an 18:33 to place 67th.  

The next race for the Ava Cross country team will be at the Randal Hinkle Golf Course hosted by Mountain Grove on Thursday, Oct. 13. It will include races for 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, junior varsity and varsity teams.  

The Ava home meet will be on Monday, Oct. 24 and will include Senior Night festivities and races for varsity boys and girls, 5th-8th grades, junior varsity and a community race that is open to any age at the end of the meet.
