District Softball Tournament Here This Week

Ava will be hosting the Class 2, District 1 softball tournament this week. Play was scheduled to begin on Wednesday afternoon despite overnight rain that lingered into the morning hours.

Ava Athletic Director Rex Sawyer said Wednesday afternoon that games would be played.

Houston and Ava are seeded 1 and 2, respectively, in the tournament and received first-round byes.

Scheduled to play in first-round action on Wednesday were Hartville (4) and Gainesville (5), set to begin at 4:30; and Mansfield (3) and Seymour (6), scheduled to begin at 6 o’clock.

Top-seed Houston will play the winner of the Hartville-Gainesville game at 4:30 today (Thursday) in the semifinals, and Ava will play the winner of  Mansfield-Seymour at 6 o’clock.

The championship game is set for 4:30 p.m. Friday.
