Gladys Ann Holman, 79 years, 9 months, and 1 day old, passed to heaven on April 25, 2016 at her home in Seymour, Mo., (Cedar Gap) with her family by her side.
Gladys was born July 24, 1936 in Evans, Mo., to William “Bill” and Lena (Beavans-Thornsberry) Rippee.
Gladys was a retired housekeeper from Trinity Medical Center in Moline, Ill. She was proudly a homemaker most of her life.
On July 23, 1953 Gladys and James Riley Holman were united in marriage in Ava, Mo., and to this union four children were born.
She grew up in the Evans community on the Bryant Creek. She attended the East Dogwood School and was baptized at the age of 14 on Bryant Creek. She was a member of the Evansdale Church while growing up. Gladys loved to work outside and tend her flowers. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, camping, fishing and feeding her birds.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Danny Ray; three sisters, Helen Tate, Glenda Hulse and Betty Lou Rippee; and two brothers, Floyd and Eugene Rippee; and son-in-law, Charles Sweeney.
Gladys is survived by three children and their spouses, Joann and James Land, Orion, Ill., Cherry Sweeney, Seymour, Mo., and James Leroy Holman, Poplar Bluff, Mo.;
five grandchildren, Jennifer, Shanna, Tiffany, Angie and J.J.; 11 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Clayton Rippee, Ava, Mo., Boyd Rippee, Forsyth, Mo., and Lloyd Dale Rippee, Springfield, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family wants to thank the Hulston Cancer Center and Cox Medical for the loving care they gave to their mother.
Funeral services for Gladys will be Friday, April 29, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, Mo., with burial in the Huffman Cemetery, Ava, Mo. Officiating will be Pastor Oren Alcorn. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Springfield, Mo.
