Ava R-I Holds Pre-Bid Meeting on Student Transportation Option

Ava Superintendent Dr. Nancy Lawler facilitated a pre-bid meeting Thursday, April 7, with the sole purpose to review specs associated with the upcoming bid process for contracted student transportation and bus route services.

Questions recognized during last week’s session were inquiries that were submitted to administra­tors prior to the pre-bid session, and had a deadline of April 4.  Upon receipt of the questions, administra­tors and transportation committee members held a special meeting to review the questions and formulate answers.  Board members on the committee include Ron Wallace, Bart Ellison, and Marsha Aborn. Troy Tredway, a newly elected board member, also attended the session.

Lawler’s pre-bid info provided an overview of school terms and bid specifications as previously cited in prior transportation meetings and board sessions.  Details were given in a PowerPoint format that focused solely upon the board chosen Option No. 3, and how busing needs would be contracted after assessing the cost and driver qualifications, for each individual route.

The agenda comprised a 13-page handout that mirrored the meeting’s PowerPoint presentation, with the first page detailing the school’s new definitions of routes ­––­­ noting short routes as less than 65 miles daily round trip, and long routes, more than 65 miles daily round trip.  The entry also displayed how a contract will be calculated.  Remaining pages gave the board’s responses to busing details and bid related questions, by providing answers to an additional 22 questions.

The pre-bid session on transporta­tion drew a gathering of about 30 persons, with the majority of the group tied to the current system as route owners, drivers, or supportive family members.

The deadline for bid submissions is today (Thursday) at 1:00 p.m., with the opening of bids on Friday, April 15, 9:00 a.m.

The contracted transportation bid process is slated to be on the board agenda for Tuesday, April 19.  The session starts at 6:30 p.m.

However, prior to the start of the regular meeting, Troy Tredway and Lowell Strong, candidates recently elected to the board, will be sworn in at 6:15 p.m., with the selection of board officers to follow.
