Eugene “Gene” Paul Conradi, 86, of Norwood, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, surrounded by family.
He was born on March 19, 1929 in Des Moines, Iowa, to George and Ernestine (Schulz) Conradi. He married Marian Henson on Dec. 21, 1950.
He served as a sergeant in the Army during the Korean War. After returning, he attended Iowa State College and graduated in 1957.
Eugene began a 32 year career as a mechanical engineer at Dico Company in Des Moines. Throughout his career he was granted several patents dealing with spoke type wheels, bearing protection, and surge trailer brakes. He was an active lifetime member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and also served on the board of directors of Grand View College. Eugene retired as vice president and chief engineer in 1990 and moved with his wife, Marian, to a farm in Norwood, Mo.
Eugene enjoyed all types of car races and often attended the Indianapolis 500. He also enjoyed auto mechanics and time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Marian; three daughters, Alice Conradi, Winter Springs, Fla., Jenny Johns and husband Danny, Seymour, Mo., and Vera Conradi, Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Daniel Vegas, Tampa, Fla., Alexander Vegas, Clearwater, Fla., and Emily Johns, Springfield, Mo.; one great-grandson, Gordon Vegas; and two sisters, Janice Smith, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Kathryn Killinger, Nokomis, Fla.
There will be private family graveside services held at a later date at Evansdale Cemetery in Douglas County, Mo.
Arrangements were made under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mtn. Grove.
