The Tragedy of Donald Trump is not his – it is ours.
There will always be Peters, Pol Pots, Hitlers, Amins, Tojos, and Husseins, who spread their hateful rhetoric to gather political power and prestige, always aiming at some minority group that is easy for their audience to dislike.
Sure, it is entertaining for most of us to watch these clowns as they spew their garbage so transparently foolish. We think. “Who could actually take this idiot seriously?” And, we say, “Hey Honey, come listen to what this fool is saying now.”
The tragedy is not these fools. The tragedy is that while these clowns, who will do or say anything, often of a racially-pandering nature, if they think it will advance their political ends, assault us with their tripe, some of us, granted a small portion of us but some of us encourage their behavior by supporting their causes.
We will pass through this bigotry regarding falsely-stereotypical Mexican immigrants as we have those of the Irish, the Chinese, the Italians, and so on.
It is just a matter of passing time, of growing up a bit more, of discovering once again that they are just like us, and that they will soon become us.
