Water was running deep on the streets of Ava late Monday afternoon. This time it wasn’t from rain but from a broken water main at the intersection of NE 15th Avenue and N. Jefferson (Old Highway 5). The 12-inch main is located just below the water storage tank at the cemetery and the tremendous pressure and large volume of water opened quite a crater in the pavement before the tank was drained. The large volume of water flooded storm drains and even raised the water level in Prairie Creek at the city park. In the photo above Mayor David Norman (second from right) is surveying the situation. In the photo at left, Water Dept. employees Jim Mills (left) and David Stout (right) are working to repair the line Tuesday morning.
