Ava CofC Economic Development Committee Will Meet May 12

The Ava Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee has been revitalized and reorganized, and is meeting regularly on the second Tuesday evening of each month at the Ava High School Board Room.  Meetings begin at 6 p.m.  The next meeting is May 12.
The mission of the committee is to improve the economic atmosphere of owning or running a business in Ava. All business people in Ava are invited and encouraged to participate in the meetings.
The Economic Development Committee has found the administration and staff of the City of Ava to be very responsive with some of the suggestions and recommendations that have been put forward.  The gazebo and city square have already begun to display the positive effects of the collaborative efforts of the committee and the city.
A recent survey of business owners around the square produced a substantial amount of input, and, along with the results of another survey which was conducted several years ago, has established a foundation for planning for future improvements. Those attending the committee meetings thus far are very pleased with the progress being made, and are hopeful that more people in the business community will step forward to participate.
Committee members Nina Carter and Richard Sturgeon recently attended a special workshop for writing grant applications at the South Central Ozark Council of Governments (SCOCOG) in Pomona. The information and contacts made were enlightening and encouraging.
The Economic Development Committee has invited Jan Simons from The Missouri Community Betterment Program to make a presentation at the next meeting on Tuesday night.
The Missouri Community Betterment (MCB) Program, established in 1963, is designed to help Missouri communities enhance their life through overall community development, planning and implementation. The MCB Program accomplishes this mission primarily by lending technical assistance to communities; by officially recognizing the participating communities and neighborhoods; and by awarding those that excel in the program.
The Economic Development Committee would like to invite and encourage all business owners in Ava and surrounding areas to attend this presentation.
