Douglas Co. Democrats Meet Tuesday, April 7

The Douglas County Democrats had their monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 7, at Guacamole’s Mexican Restaurant in Ava.  The meeting was called to order by Chair Teresa Tost at 5:35 p.m.
The minutes from last month’s meeting were shared with the group.
Chaz Franzke, treasurer, reported the group’s current balance and he reminded members that the  annual dues can be paid at any time.  Donations were collected from members which will be used to support the Backpack Program in each of the Douglas County public schools.
The chair reported that the planning of activities of the Ava Summer Fest are in full swing.  On April 25,  Ava’s Got Talent will take place at the Cross Point Church on Y Highway.  This talent show will be open to all students from Douglas County Schools and will include vocal and instrumental acts performed by individuals and groups.
Since the focus of earnings from Ava Summer Fest activities will be to help the youth of Douglas County, for those who donate a baby item, admission will be $3 for an adult and $1 for kids under 12.  Without an item to donate, admission will increase to $5 for an adult and $2 for kids under 12.  The next activity will be on May 21 and will be live music on the Ava square.  There will be no admission and music will play from 5 p.m. until 10 to 10:30 p.m.
An all day event is planned for May 23 at the Ava City Park from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  There will be live music and food concessions.  Additional non food vendors can participate with the purchase of booth space. Interested vendors can go to for an application. A silent auction will take place through the day on May 23 at this event and/or online.
The chair also told members that the Ava Chamber of Commerce Membership and Awards Banquet would take place on Saturday, April 11, at the Ava Victory Academy at 6 p.m.  As members of the Chamber, all of the Douglas County Democrats are invited to attend.
Members discussed planning the highway clean up for our adopted section of Highway 76.   The chair asked the secretary to check with members and determine a day and time for this activity and share the information via email and phone.  All members were encouraged to help in this endeavor.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday,  May 5, at Guacamole’s Restaurant.  Dinner will be at 5 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Meeting was adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
