Dixie Nell Garrett

Dixie Nell Garrett, 81 years,  passed to Heaven  on April 11, 2015 at her home in Ava.
Dixie was born to Ora Sellers March 11, 1934 and was raised in the Rome and Smallett area. She was raised with her special cousin, Lucille Jenkins. Dixie graduated from Ava High School in 1951. She loved learning more of the history of the  Ozark hills, most recently reading, “2 Good 2 Be Forgotten.”
It was in the Ozarks she met her husband, a young airman stationed at Fordland radar site in Fordland, Mo. They would marry Oct. 3, 1952  in Mtn. Home, Ark., and to this union three children were born. Wayne and Dixie loved to dance and were quite good at it. They would travel extensively spending time in Illinois, Italy, Wyoming, Hawaii and Oregon.
During Wayne’s three tours to Thailand, Turkey and Korea, Dixie and the children returned to Ava. At each assignment, Dixie made friends quickly and easily found employment finishing her career as manager at Woolworth’s in Klamath Falls, Ore. Upon Wayne’s retirement they returned to Ava where they owned His n Hers Drive In, managed Bland’s Steak House and Sale Barn Café, she also was employed at Rexall Drug and Ava Beverage.
Dixie loved holiday family gatherings with all her children and grandchildren, which she was able to enjoy this past Easter. She also enjoyed spending time with her special friends at Ava Drug and playing Bunco for over 30 years.
Dixie was preceded in death by her mother and mother-in-law, Ruth.
Dixie is survived by her husband, Wayne Garrett, Ava, Mo.; three children and their spouses, Mike and Cindy Garrett, Terri and Sam Fossett and Bob  Garrett all of Ava, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Paul and Roxanne Bocchi, Chris and Amy Kirkland, Heather and Jason Snelson, Cami and Lee Bohnenkamp, Sammye and Delbert Helton, Kirby and Tara Fossett, Courtney and  Jeff Davault, Shelly and Gabe Beason, Lindsay Belknap, Jorie Garrett, and Judd Tyson;   22 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Amber, Tyler, David, Tanner, Logan, Sydney, Brandt, Maci, Myley, Rhett, Allison, Ciara, Claire, Celia, Garrett, Gentry, Gracie, Brooklynn, Addilynn, Jaxon and Bayler; two great-great-grandchildren, Fisher and Hadleigh. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Helen Allen and Jean Wilks, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Dixie were Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 10 a.m.  in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, Mo.,  with burial in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday  from 6-7 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating was Pastor Oren Alcorn. Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association, American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.
