Skyline Board Meets; Sets Summer School

The Skyline R-II Board meeting was postponed from Feb. 19 to Feb. 26 because of the weather.
The Board met in regular session on Thursday Feb. 26 with four members present.  The consent agenda items consisting of board minutes, bills and financial statement were presented and approved.
In old business:  the board approved the purchase of a used bus.  They also discussed what to do with the two buses that are not currently being used because of repairs needed.
The board revised the 2014-2015 calendar to include days to make up for the two days we were closed because of illness.  School will be in session March 11 and March 12.
March 12 will be a half day with Parent Teacher Conferences being held from 1 to 7 p.m.
It was noted that Skyline had missed seven days so far for weather and will use the days built into the calendar already for this purpose with the last day of school scheduled for May 15.
In new business:  The board approved the spring 2015 testing schedule.  MAP and EOC tests are scheduled for April 27 through May 8.  Tests will have to be spread out over the two weeks to accommodate for online testing.
Summer School dates were set for June 1-25. The reorganizational meeting date was set for April 16 in conjunction with the regularly scheduled meeting.
The Board approved the SDAC memorandum. Also discussed were short and long range goals.  Some items that need to be added to the short range plan are:  classroom chairs, landscaping, counter tops in three classrooms, and repainting the building.  One major items that the board would like to look at is remodeling the restrooms by the preschool classroom/front offices.
In the Superintendent’s Report:  Enrollment for January was 88 students in K-8th grade with 17 preschool students.
The Board reviewed the results of surveys to staff regarding strengths, weaknesses, and programs of the school.  The next regular scheduled Board meeting is March 19.
