FOREST NOTICE OF EXCHANGE PROPOSAL

LAND FOR LAND EXCHANGE

Notice is hereby given that the Forest Service, United States Department of Agriculture, is considering an exchange of land with The Nature Conservancy, A Non-profit Corporation of the District of Columbia, whose principal office address is 4245 North Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, Virginia 22203-1606 and whose tax mailing address is 2800 South Brentwood Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63144-2712 for land under the of authority set forth in the Act of March 1, 1911, as amended, and October 21, 1976, as amended and August 20, 1988.

The lands under the jurisdiction of Forest Service that are being considered for exchange are described as: The South Half of the Southeast Quarter (S ½ SE ¼); the Northeast Quarter of the Southeast Quarter (NE ¼ SE ¼); all in Section 20, Township 27 North, Range 12 West, Douglas County, Missouri, containing 120.0, acres more or less.

The non-federal lands are described as:

The South Half of the Southwest Quarter of the Southwest Quarter in Section 17, Township 26 North, Range 1 West, of Carter County, Missouri, containing 20 acres, more or less.

The Southeast Quarter of the Southwest Quarter of Section 20, Township 26 North, Range 1 West of Carter County, State of Missouri, containing 40 acres, more or less.

Part of the South Half of Government Lot 2 in the Northwest Quarter of Section 30, Township 26 North, Range 1 West, Carter County, Missouri, being more specifically described as follows: Commencing at the Northwest corner of the Northwest Quarter of said Section 30, thence south along the West line of said Section 30 a distance of 2,506 feet to the point of beginning; thence continue southerly along the West line of Section 30 a distance of 416 feet; thence due east a distance of 990 feet along a line parallel to the Northern line of Section 30; thence due North a distance of 416 feet along a line parallel to the West line of said Section 30, thence due West a distance of 990 feet to the point of beginning, containing 9.4 acres, more or less.

All of the Northeast Quarter of the Southeast Quarter (NE ¼ SE ¼), and all that part of the Northwest Quarter of the Southeast Quarter (NW ¼ SE ¼) lying East of State Highway “H” as now located; all in Section Twenty-Seven (27), Township Twenty-Five(25) North, Range Twenty (20) West, in Christian County, Missouri, containing 51 acres.

Any or all the above described lands may be exchanged provided the values are equal. In the event the values are not equal, either party may equalize the values by the payment of cash. The amount of cash payment may not exceed 25 percent of the value of the lands transferred out of Federal ownership.

This exchange does not involve any Wetland as defined in Executive Order 11990. This exchange does not involve any flood plains as defined in Executive order 11988.

Persons claiming such properties or having valid objections to this proposed exchange must file their claims or objections with the Forest Supervisor, Forest Service U.S. Department of Agriculture, Mark Twain National Forest, 401 Fairgrounds Road, Rolla, Missouri 65401, within 45 days after date of the first publication.
