The Ava Board of Aldermen held a special meeting Monday, Jan. 5, to rescind the board’s authorization to sign a contract with an architectural group in Springfield, Mo.
With the absence of Mayor Eddie Maggard, Alderman Burrely Loftin conducted the session as president of the board. Councilmen present were Keith Jones, David Norman and Loftin. East Ward Alderman Bill Long was absent.
In the Tuesday, Nov. 25, meeting, the Ava Board of Aldermen had unanimously chosen Sapp Design Associates Architects P.C., of Springfield, Mo., for the remodel of the proposed city hall on South Jefferson Street. But, after receiving SAPP’s contract in December, and assessing fees and details noted in the legal agreement, councilmen had determined the firm’s stipulations were unacceptable for the City of Ava. Therefore, on Monday, the board rescinded their commitment to sign a contract with SAPP. The vote was 3-0, with motions by aldermen David Norman and Keith Jones
After a review of the architectural candidate list, and comparing details of two prospective firms, Alderman David Norman tendered a motion for Gaskin Hill Norcross Architects and Engineers, of Springfield, Mo. Alderman Keith Jones seconded the motion, and the vote was 3-0.
Gaskin Hill Norcross (GHN) will now be asked to submit a contract for the city aldermen to review, and if the contract is acceptable and an agreement reached, GHN will begin the task of creating a new look and functional design for the proposed city hall location on South Jefferson.
Councilmen will reconvene for a regular business session on Tuesday, Jan. 13, in council chambers at Ava City Hall. The open meeting begins at 5:00 p.m.
