As shown in the pictures above, the first annual Healthy Schools Healthy Communities Turkey Trot was a success and a lot of fun. There were several drawings for great prizes with winners as follows: Crystal Lee, Tara Anders, and Micca Howard each won a MOCH Family Membership for a month; the following students and parents won hoody sweatshirts or pull over jackets: Kellie Degase, Carrie Adams, Lauren Mendel, Daisy Christensen, Sarah Kerner, Tina Henry, Jessica Woolman, Corey Heinlein, Connie Dean, Andrew Clevenhagen, JC Corcoran, Emmitt Degase, Braxton Edwards, Ty Degase, Ryan Thompson, Elizabeth Reagan, Justin Corcoran, Cole Heinlein, and Devyn Gieber.
The Douglas County Health Department provided Frisbees to all the participants, and Rebecca Smith with the University of Missouri Extension was on hand to serve “energy bite” snacks to the walkers, and the High School Leadership Class and Cross Country runners also helped with the Turkey Trot by counting laps. The Fall Walk to/at School Wednesday program and the Turkey Trot was funded by The Missouri Foundation for Health. The Missouri Foundation for Health is a philanthropic organization whose vision is to improve the health of the people in the communities it serves. More Fun & Fitness Events will be coming soon provided by the Healthy Schools Healthy Communities Grant.
