Middle School Bears Play Games At Liberty & Cabool

The Ava Middle School Bears played on the road at Liberty and Cabool before the Thanksgiving break.
The Bears dropped two games at Mountain View-Birch Tree Liberty on Monday, Nov. 24. The Eagles defeated the Bears 33-16 in the 7th grade contest. The Bears kept the game close until the final period, trailing the Eagles 18-12 at the end of the third period.
Scoring for the Bears included: Blake King 6, Josh Bray 4, Nate Swofford 2, Kayden Myers 2, and Aeneas Stout 2.
The Bears dropped the 8th grade game 30-26. The game was tied after one period of play and the Bears held a three point advantage at halftime. Liberty moved to a two point lead after three periods of play.
The Bears regained the lead at 26-23 with less than four minutes remaining in the game, but were unable to score in the final minutes of play.
Stephen Copeland led Ava’s scoring with 7 points. Griffin Taylor, Caleb Johnson, and Drake King scored 4 points each. Thomas Emerich scored 3 points; Dustin Kilgore and Darien Rucker scored 2 points each to round out the scoring for the Bears.
The Bears claimed two victories at Cabool the following night of Tuesday, Nov. 25. Ava defeated Cabool 39-16 in the 7th grade contest. The Bears built the lead to 24-2 by halftime.
Kayden Myers led the scoring for the Bears with 11 points. The rest of the scoring for Ava included:  Aeneas Stout 8, Blake King 7, Evan Horn 5, Nate Swofford 4, and Josh Bray 4.
The Bears defeated the Bulldogs 47-22 in the 8th grade game. Ava jumped out to a 19-2 first quarter lead and extended the lead to a 32-10 halftime advantage. Caleb Johnson’s 14 points and 13 points from Thomas Emerich led the scoring for the Bears. The remainder of the scoring for Ava included:  Stephen Copeland 10, Drake King 6, Dustin Kilgore 2, and Karl Engelhardt 2.
