Ava 7th & 8th Grade Bears Host Zizzers; Travel to Mtn. Grove

The Ava Middle School Bears hosted the West Plains Zizzers on Tuesday, Nov. 18, and finished the night with two victories.
The Bears defeated the Zizzers 31-24 in the 7th grade contest.
The Bears trailed 8-7 after one quarter of play and trailed 10-9 at halftime. Ava claimed the lead in the second half and led 21-16 after three quarters of play.
Josh Bray led the scoring for the Bears with 13 points, followed by Blake King with 7 points. The rest of the scoring for Ava included:  Nate Swofford 5, Kayden Myers 4, and Jacob Gillies 2. Myers led the team in rebounding with seven rebounds.
The Bears prevailed 35-30 over West Plains in the 8th grade game. Ava led 5-4 after one quarter of play, and gradually extended the lead to 27-14 by the end of the third quarter.
Drake King led Ava’s scoring with 12 points, followed by Caleb Johnson with 9 points. The remainder of the scoring for the Bears included:  Darien Rucker 6, Thomas Emerich 3, Griffin Taylor 2, Dustin Kilgore 2, and Stephen Copeland 1. Taylor and Copeland were the leading rebounders for Ava with five rebounds each.
The Bears traveled to Mountain Grove on Thursday, Nov. 20, to participate in the first games played in the Panthers’ new gymnasium. The Bears defeated the Panthers 33-18 in the 7th grade game. Ava led 11-5 after one quarter of play and extended the lead to 20-7 by halftime.
Blake King led Ava’s scoring with 9 points, followed by Josh Bray with 7 points. The rest of the scoring for the Bears included:  Aeneas Stout 6, Jacob Gillies 4, Kayden Myers 4, Nate Swofford 2, and Evan Horn 1. Stout led the rebounding category for the Bears with six rebounds.
Mountain Grove defeated the Bears 37-24 in the 8th grade contest. The Bears trailed by eight points at halftime and allowed the Panthers to extend their lead to 29-12 by the end of the third quarter.
Caleb Johnson’s 10 points and 8 points from Darien Rucker led the scoring for the Bears. Stephen Copeland and Thomas Emerich chipped in 3 points each to round out the scoring. Emerich was Ava’s leading rebounder with seven.
