Selbia C. Brooks, 99

Selbia Clifford Brooks, 99, of Springfield, Mo., passed away Nov. 18, 2014.
Selbia was born July 27, 1915, at Squires, Mo., the son of Guy Arthur and Sarah Elizabeth (Ipock) Brooks.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruth Naomi (Brown) Brooks.  Their children are Judy Jeffries, Springfield, Ron Brooks, Squires, Keith and wife, Sherry Brooks, Springfield; three grandchildren, Jennifer Chaffee and husband, Ebon, Springfield, Bethany Precht and husband, Toby, Springfield, and  Zachary Brooks and wife, Natalie, Clarksville, Tenn.; and seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Gunnar and Jameson Chaffee; Isaac and Evelyn Precht, Nora and Noah Brooks.
Preceding him in death are his parents and two sisters, Neta Wilson and Freeda Frazier.
Selbia graduated from Ava High School, Missouri State University, and Missouri University where he obtained a master’s degree in elementary education.  He was a teacher in Douglas County and a teacher/principal in the Springfield School System for over 40 years.
He served in the Army in the 234 Signal Operations Company during World War II.  Decorations and citations included the Victory Medal, American Theater Medal, Good Conduct Metal, Meritorious Unit Award, and Service Stripe.
Selbia enjoyed working on his farm at Squires, and spent many hours tending a garden at his home in Springfield. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 21, at 9:30 a.m., in Greenlawn South Funeral Home, 441 W. Battlefield, Springfield.  Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery. The Reverend Ryan Palmer will officiate.
Visitation will be in the funeral home on Thursday, Nov. 20, 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
