Democrats Meet At Ava Restaurant

The Douglas County Democrats had their monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 3 at Guacamole restaurant.  Meeting was called to order by Chair Teresa Tost at 7:45 p.m. The meeting time was delayed so members could attend a public forum where the community was able to meet candidates running for presiding commissioner and associate circuit judge for Douglas County.
All six candidates were invited but the only candidates able to attend were Harold Hoffman, candidate for presiding commissioner, and Elizabeth Bock and Karen Bates-Crouch, both candidates for associate circuit judge.
There was discussion about the forum, several members expressing gratitude for the candidates who could attend and mentioning that each did a wonderful job of outlining his or her unique qualifications.
Chair Teresa Tost reminded members that we will be hosting a second public forum on Tuesday, July 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Vanzant Community Center. All six candidates have been invited to attend and anyone from the general public who wishes to ask questions of the candidates can submit them in writing at the beginning of the meeting.
Candidates will also be able to ask questions of each other if they wish.  The chair asked all members to get the word out about this meeting and of course,  members of this and surrounding areas are all welcome to attend, whatever their party affiliation.
The minutes from last month’s meeting were shared with the group.  It was agreed to accept the minutes as read.
The treasurer gave a report of current finances.
There was a discussion about the upcoming Farmer’s Market and it was decided to have a booth at the market on the first Saturday of June.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, July 1, at Guacamole Mexican Restaurant.  Dinner will be at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
