Douglas Co. Democrats Meet May 6 In Ava

The Douglas County Democratic Central Committee met on May 6 at Guacamoles Restaurant.  The meeting was called to order at 5:25 p.m. by Chair Teresa Tost.
The minutes from last month’s meeting were shared with the group.  It was agreed to accept the minutes as read.
Treasurer Chaz Franzke gave a current report of funds which included money received at Ava’s Farmer’s Market.
The Chair reported that a certificate of award had been sent to Cheyanne Whorton, the Mountain Grove senior who received the $500 scholarship for 2014.
We will again have a booth in the gazebo at the June 7 Farmer’s Market in Ava to raise money for area schools’ Backpack Program and our Scholarship Fund.  All members were encouraged to attend to man the booth and/or bring items for sale.
Discussion was held on the Public Forum to be held June 3 at the Ava Community Center.  All candidates running for the positions of County Commissioner and Associate Circuit Judge have been invited to attend so they can describe their qualifications to members of the community who attend.  People who have questions for the candidates should print or type these questions before the meeting so they can turn them in as they enter the Forum.  A panel made of some of our members will review these questions and then pass these questions on to each candidate.  People who bring questions are asked to limit the scope to local issues affecting Douglas County.
A motion was made and seconded to look into advertising for our Public Forum.  Motion passed unanimously.
There was discussion on having a second Public Forum for these same candidates at the Vanzant Community Center on July 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Motion was made, seconded, and then passed unanimously.
There was also discussion on looking into joining the Ava Area Chamber of Commerce.  Motion was made, seconded, and passed unanimously.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, June 3, at Guacomoles immediately following the Public Forum.
Meeting was adjourned.
