On Saturday, April 26, Ava Middle School choir students participated in a solo and ensemble festival at the Ava Performing Arts Center. The guest judge was Alberta Smith, high school vocal teacher at Central High School in Springfield, and Springfield School District’s 2012-2013 teacher of the year.
The students were evaluated using the Missouri State High School Activities Association rating system for vocal solos and ensembles: 1-Superior, 2-Outstanding, 3-Satisfactory, 4-Developing and 5-Ineffective.
All Ava solo and ensemble performers received a 1 rating. In addition, the choir performed as a group and received a 1 rating. “We are very proud of the exceptional singers,” said Ava music teacher Barbara Deegan.
