Lady Bears Take SCA Decision At Salem Monday
The Ava Lady Bears finally got back into action Monday night, claiming a 65-58 overtime win at Salem in conference play.
This was the Lady Bears’ first game of 2014 because of cancelations and postponements due to weather.
Senior Maison Bovard came through for Coach Alyssa Paulsell and the Lady Bears, scoring 29 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Jacey Swofford added 14 points for Ava, including a fade-away jump shot at the buzzer that sent the game to overtime.
Ava outscored Salem 8-1 in overtime, including two free throws by Bailey Lee with less than a minute left, to seal the victory. Lee finished with nine points on the night.
Others scoring for Ava included McKenna Hunsaker 6, Callie Eubanks 3, Hope Evans 2 and Lakota Blakey 2.
Ava trailed the Tigers 27-20 at halftime, and the second half was back and forth until Ava tied it at the buzzer.
“It was a great team win,” Coach Paulsell said.
The Lady Bears will go to Cabool for a conference game tonight (Thursday), and will play at home Monday night against Lebanon.
Ava will travel to Houston on Tuesday night for an SCA game snowed out last week, and will go to Conway on Thursday, Jan. 23.
